It's been a bit since I posted something, but I will write a nice little blog entery for you all. I recently was at FYE in Orem and found a boxed set of Tori Amos songs for $20. It had a song on it I heard as a young child called "Past The Mission." It has literally been 10 years since I have heard that song, but it came back to me the instant it hit my ears. I also found myself jamming to a lot of the other songs ont eh 5 different discs. She is SO GOOD, and while I technically shouldn't like Tori because she somewhat hates men and writes music about it, I find a love for her music. Piano has always been a part of my soul because from a young age my mom would play various kinds of songs. I would actually lay under her piano and listen to her practice the music that she would be playing at the Roof restaurant, Nordstrom's, or the Grand America Hotel. Tori uses the piano in such an interesting, soul-stirring way. I love how she takes her anger out on the keys, and her songs constantly have me thinking of how I should treat women better. Songs I love of hers would be "Winter," "Precious Things," and "China." Look her up if you don't know much about her. Rock on people
RED is actually a Christian Rock band, and knowing this makes me like them even more, and take a deeper, Christ-like meaning out of most their songs. This song, when I listen to it, always reminds me of our journey back to God, and putting our trust in Him throughout the way. Most people may dismiss this as hard rock, abiding with evil parts of the world, but when I get a much deeper meaning out of rock music, especially with lyrics like "I need you more, I'm lost in you... I could never look away, I could spend my life, lost in you."
The DJ/Producer part of me sees this song in my head, being played with its full symphonic orchestra, on a stage in a giant concert hall. The song starts slow, had the main choruses, has the slow part in the middle before the climax, and then continues into one of the most epic sounding songs of its time. The last 32 measures of the song leave a lasting impression on anyone who listens to it, and I would suggest visioning a light show in your head to the song. It will seriously make you bonkers in the end thinking of all of the beauty and love God possesses for us. Again, even though this is a Christian Rock Song, please remember that RED is made to help us feel closer to God. In the end, that should be the purpose of all music. This is my music blog. Here I will evaluate songs and artists I like, thus helping people from all types of backgrounds understand why I like certain music, and why I am drawn to it as a cornerstone of my existence. Comment with feedback, questions, or positive reinforcement. Thanks!
